  • The monthly meetings and other activities of the Arlington Area Zonta Club are planned with both fellowship and edification in mind.  Programs are planned with the objective of informing members on topics of interest in the local, national, and international community.

  • Our club is striving to serve the community with financial support and through service.  Currently we are working with:

  • Doorways, (formerly known as TACTS),  a nonprofit, tax-exempt organization that “offers safe shelter to abused, homeless and at-risk women and families”. Currently  its programs include: a family shelter, a Safehouse, HomeStart, Children’s Services, Community Services, Community Education, Court Advocacy and Accompaniment, and Financial Independece Track.

  • Along with financial contributions  to Doorways, we actively participate in supporting its programs.  Members of our club take responsibility for shopping for food and other shelter supplies on a regular basis;  our club contributes to and make purchases for the Winter Wishes Program;  in December 2007, our club  prepared for and hosted a holiday party at a shelter; members of our club prepare and serve dinner to participants in one of Doorways’  community out-reach groups;  members of Zonta  attend and support  the April Doorways Tea, a major fundraising event which is held each year.

  • This spring, members of our club contributed to  Project Care by collecting school supplies were delivered this spring to children in Afghanistan.  You can view pictures of the typical distribution on UTube by clicking here.

  • Members of the Zonta Club of the Arlington Area attended the International Convention The Zonta International Convention took place in Rotterdam, the Netherlands,  June 27 -  July 2.

  • We maintained an on-going relationship with The Global Watch Group through volunteer service and financial support.  One of our members lives in Kabul, Afghanistan.  We correspond with her and with other leaders of this group.

Fundraising project: The Sale of White House Christmas Ornaments

  • The 2008 White House Christmas ornament honors the administration of President Benjamin Harrison (1833-1901), the twenty-third president of the United States.

  • Serving one term from 1889 to 1893, Harrison was a centennial president inaugurated 100 years after George Washington season’s spectacle.

  • Inspired by the Harrison family’s Victorian Christmas tree, this 24 karat gold finished ornament interprets the first recorded tree to decorate the White House.

  • The tree, laden with baubles and garland, is a canvas for all sorts of treats and toys.  Beneath the tree are the presents the Harrison grandchildren received: a toy train and a wooden sled await Benjamin, Mary’s rosy-cheeked doll sits on a tricycle, and nearby is Marthena’s much wished for dollhouse. A three-foot-high Santa Claus completes the season's spectacle.

Fundraising project: 5th Annual Wine Tasting

  • In the spring of 2009, the Zonta Club of the Arlington Area  will hold its 5th Annual Wine Seminar.  The proceeds of this event are used for the benefit of the local, national and international causes which Zonta supports.
